What to try instead: Coconut aminos for soy sauce. Other plant proteins like lentils, chickpeas, hemp.

Why: Alcohol is directly toxic to thyroid cells, impairs T4→T3 conversion, disrupts sleep, increases gut permeability ("leaky gut"), and depletes B vitamins, magnesium, and zinc — all critical for Hashimoto's.
Watch for: Next-day fatigue, brain fog, mood crash, joint stiffness.
What to do: Many patients tolerate occasional clear spirits (tequila, vodka) or dry red wine in small amounts. Beer (gluten + alcohol) is the worst offender. A trial of 30 days alcohol-free is highly revealing.
